ABSTRACT: The role of early childhood education in reducing screen time is essential for understanding how early educational practices influence children's use of digital devices. This study investigates how early childhood education programs can help reduce screen time among young children. The objectives are to (1) assess changes in children's screen time habits, (2) evaluate the integration of activities that promote alternative engagements in early childhood education curricula, and (3) examine changes in children's physical activity levels and social interactions. A survey design is employed to collect comprehensive data on the impacts of early childhood education on screen time reduction. A purposive sample of 100 children from preschools in Kwara State was used. The case study focuses on a preschool known for its holistic approach to reducing screen time. Findings revealed significant reductions in children's screen time habits, the effectiveness of alternative engagement activities, and positive changes in physical activity levels and social interactions. Recommendations included embedding activities that promote physical and social engagements into early childhood curricula and training educators and parents to support screen time reduction strategies.
